- Siemens Healthineers in Vietnam and EMCAS Hospital Joint Stock Company with the support from Consulate General of the Federal Republic of Germany, German Industry and Commerce (AHK) and Deutsches Haus has organized a breast screening camp in Ho Chi Minh City.
- A mobile mammography truck has been set up in front of Deutsches Haus for the breast screening camp.
Breast cancer is the most commonly occurring cancer in women and the most common cancer overall. According to GLOBOCAN, Vietnam recorded more than 21,500 breast cancer cases with more than 9,000 deaths in 2020. The trend is predicted to continue increasing by more than 50% in 2040. Early and accurate detection of breast lesions is critical for effective breast cancer treatment. Unfortunately, there is currently a lack of awareness and accessibility to breast cancer screening programs across the country.
In order to improve accessibility to breast cancer screening in Vietnam, Siemens Healthineers and EMCAS Hospital Joint Stock Company, with the support from the Consulate General of the Federal Republic of Germany, German Industry and Commerce (AHK), and Deutsches Haus, has organized a free breast screening camp for women in Ho Chi Minh City, the busiest city in Vietnam. This camp will promote routine breast screening, raise awareness of breast cancer, and improve access to breast cancer care in Vietnam. The participants in the camp will be put through a screening process that guarantees high discretion, privacy, and data protection, from registration to screening to consulting.
To commemorate the camp’s opening, a press conference was organized with a distinguished panel which featured Dr. Josefine Wallat, Consulate General of the Federal Republic of Germany; Mr. Fabian Martin Singer, Head of Product & Sales and Acting Country Head of Vietnam, Siemens Healthineers; Assoc. Prof. Nguyen Dinh Tung, Professional Director, EMCAS Hospital Joint Stock Company; Dr. Pham Xuan Khiem, Director, EMCAS Hospital Joint Stock Company; and Mr. Marko Walde, the Chief Representative of Delegation of German Industry and Commerce in Vietnam (AHK Vietnam).
Dr. Pham Xuan Khiem, Director, EMCAS Hospital Joint Stock Company, said during the press conference, “The prevalence of breast cancer in Vietnam has increased exponentially in recent years and it is critical for women in our local communities to be aware of this disease and receive the right medical screening and treatment. We are thankful to our partners who have come forward to support this breast screening camp in Ho Chi Minh City.”
“Being a leading medical technology company, it is the responsibility of Siemens Healthineers to make quality and affordable healthcare accessible and available to all, no matter where they live. With this mobile mammography truck, we are creating awareness and making screening accessible to diagnose breast cancer, one of the most threatening diseases among women in Vietnam.” said Mr. Fabian Martin Singer, Head of Product & Sales and Acting Country Head of Siemens Healthineers Vietnam. At the breast screening camp, the mobile mammography truck, equipped with a MAMMOMAT Fusion from Siemens Healthineers has been deployed at the front of the Deutsches Haus, where over 400 participants are expected to be screened over the six days at this camp. EMCAS intends to hold 11 more screening camps in Ho Chi Minh City in 2023 to raise public awareness about breast cancer.
